Jackson Health System
The medical school's patient care and clinical research programs are associated with Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH), a 1,558-bed public facility located on the Miller School of Medicine campus, adjacent to UM/Sylvester. JMH is governed by the Public Health Trust, which takes primary responsibility for the health of the medically underserved citizens of Miami-Dade County. The Medical Center Committee, with equal representation from the University Board of Trustees and the Public Health Trust, provides oversight for the relationship between the two institutions.
UM/Sylvester leadership provides the medical direction for the cancer program at JMH. Integrating elements for the two hospital cancer programs include a common medical staff, a single cancer committee, and a common Institutional Review Board (IRB). The close relationship with JMH represents a unique opportunity to include an underserved and minority population in the translational research efforts of UM/Sylvester.
