Jose Armario - Escape from Alcatraz
Founders Society members for Sylvester, Jose and Mary Armario are going to participate in the annual ESCAPE from Alcatraz Triathlon this spring alongside a team of friends and colleagues from all over the world. The race will be held on June 1 and is comprised of a treacherous 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shores of the St. Francis Yacht Club, a punishing 18-mile bike ride, and a taxing 8-mile run through Golden Gate Recreational Area.
“It’s ambitious but we’re giving it our all because we’re racing for a cause we truly believe in. We’re raising money for Izidore S. Lossos, M.D., at the University of Miami. Simply put, Dr. Lossos’ mission is to find a cure for blood cancers,” said Jose. While that is always a worthwhile cause, Dr. Lossos’ work hits particularly close to home for the Armarios. Two of their children have battled lymphoma. It devastated their family but with the help of Dr. Lossos, Christine and Joey are now in remission. Now, they are on a mission to raise $100,000 so Dr. Lossos can continue his research to advance science and find a cure for blood cancers.
“This experience has taught us an important lesson: where there is faith, family and good medicine … anything is possible,” Jose and Mary added.
Jose is an alumni of the University of Miami and a rabid Canes fan. When not cheering on the U, he is Corporate Executive Vice President, Worldwide Supply Chain, Development and Franchising for McDonald’s Corporation.
Dr. Izidore S. Lossos, MD, is a recognized expert and leader in the field of lymphoma. Dr. Lossos expertise spans from basic studies in lymphoma pathogenesis, translational studies investigating prognostic biomarkers, preclinical evaluation of novel therapeutic approaches to lymphoma and clinical studies of lymphoma treatment. Dr. Lossos is also head of Lymphoma Program.
