Signature Events
Throughout the year, Sylvester hosts a variety events aimed at both providing a fun and exciting night out for the South Florida community as well as raising funds for cancer research and care.
In the Garden Gala
The kick-off event of South Florida’s fall social season, In The Garden Gala, was held on November 13, 2010, at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami and Hotel Beaux Arts Miami, which also celebrated its grand opening that night. This year’s theme was The Metropolitan Garden Gala, with Miami Dolphins legend, Jimmy Cefalo, on hand as Master of Ceremonies. This year’s performer was Idina Menzel, best known for her performance in television phenomenon “Glee,” as well as her Tony Award-winning turn in Broadway’s “Wicked.” The Gala was followed by an after party at the hotel in downtown Miami.
Designed for a Cure
Designed for a Cure is a powerful evening where science and fashion come together to celebrate cancer survival. Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center hosted its signature event at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami on Nov. 12, 2011. The event featured a fashion show with cancer survivors escorted by Sylvester doctors and clinicians as well as a silent auction. Funds raised from this event benefit cancer research at Sylvester.
WellBeingWell
The 2011 WellBeingWell Conference featured more than a dozen educational presentations on various health and wellness topics in order to educate the community about how to prevent, live with, and survive cancer. University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala, Ph.D., and integrative medicine expert Andrew Weil, M.D., were the keynote speakers at the conference on April 16, 2011.
