WellBeingWell
The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s WellBeingWell program presents patients and their loved ones with facts, guidelines, and tips about how to live a lifestyle that makes the body and mind best capable to defend itself against cancer before, during, and after treatment. Through conferences, private workshops, and newsletters, WellBeingWell ensures that the most recent and useful information is available to patients to help alleviate the physical and emotional burdens of cancer.
WellBeingWell Conference 2011
The 2011 WellBeingWell conference was sponsored by Chico’s and took place April 26, 2011 at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. It featured keynote speakers Donna E. Shalala, Ph.D., president of the University of Miami and former U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services, and Andrew Weil, M.D., world-renowned leader and pioneer in the field of integrative medicine. Emmy-award-winning TV news anchor Jackie Nespral of NBC Miami closed the conference luncheon.
The conference was hosted by Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and featured concurrent breakout sessions and panel discussions led by Sylvester medical professionals and experts.
Sylvester introduced the WellBeingWell Conference in 2008 as a way to educate the community about how to prevent, live with, and survive cancer.
Slice of WellBeingWell
A Slice of WellBeingWell is a workshop series that provides the community with expert knowledge and recommendations by Sylvester doctors on how to prevent, live with, and survive cancer. These workshops take place at workplaces and gatherings for groups of 30-40 people. While the full-day WellBeingWell conference features more than a dozen presentations, the “slice” is a scaled-back program with one or two doctors presenting. A key message of the program is to reassure South Florida residents that they don’t need to leave the area to receive the best cancer treatment available. As a university-based cancer center, Sylvester seeks to advance the science and technology of treatment and research, which means we provide the best individualized treatment for patients based on our multidisciplinary experience and the research conducted in our laboratories.
