Volunteer Opportunities at Sylvester
NOTE: We are not currently accepting new volunteers. Please check back at a later date.
Patient Ambassador Program
Stationed in clinical waiting areas, patient ambassadors greet patients; provide updates regarding wait times; offer snacks, drinks, and warm blankets; escort patients throughout the facility; and help to ensure patients and families have a pleasant experience at Sylvester. Whether the patient needs a newspaper, directions, a cup of water, or simply a friendly ear, the patient ambassador will assist patients and families with the utmost courtesy and care. Patient ambassadors receive specialized customer service training prior to beginning their volunteer assignment.
Cancer Resource Center
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has partnered with the American Cancer Society to open a Cancer Resource Center, which provides free educational materials as well as complimentary wigs, scarves, caps, mastectomy bras, and prostheses. Volunteers will offer guidance and provide cancer patients and their families with access to available services and programs. The resource center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. Volunteers who are interested in this highly interactive program will receive specialized training from the American Cancer Society.
Administrative & Clerical Opportunities
Administrative and clerical volunteer assignments, such as filing and assisting with meeting preparations, are great opportunities for future health care administration professionals as well as for anyone who would like to volunteer at the hospital, but who may feel uncomfortable in clinical areas.
Special Events
We also offer opportunities for volunteers to assist with special events such as employee recognition events, community fundraisers, and health fairs.
