Clinical Interests

Dr. Kiszonas clinical interests include mammography and breast imaging. Dr. Kiszonas early interests included radiography for diseases of the respiratory tract and chest.   Later he began to focus on mammography, pursuing studies on unusual mammographic calcifications, radial sclerosing lesions, breast hamartomas and other mammographic abnormalities.

Research Interests

Dr. Kiszonas's research interests include mammography and breast imaging.

 
Dr. Kiszonas' career has been mainly devoted to this area and his other passion: teaching. He has been teaching radiology since the1960's and has been a lecturer and editorial consultant for the American Osteopathic Association since 1979. In 1981 he was the Trenery Lecturer for the American Osteopathic College of Radiology, its highest recognition in teaching.

Biography

Dr. Richard Kiszonas is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathy. After completing an internship and obtaining a M.S. degree in Radiology at this College, Dr. Kiszonas went to the University of Minnesota where he completed a Mini Fellowship in Angiography. He returned to Pennsylvania and joined the faculty of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Assistant Professor. In 1988 he came to the University of Miami Department of Radiology and in 1994 became an Associate Professor.  Subsequently he accepted a position at Nova Southeastern University as Professor of Radiology. In 2001 he retuned to the University of Miami.  Dr. Kiszonas has presented and lectured extensively at national meetings on abnormalities of the breast and was a Visiting Professor for the University of Texas Houston Medical school from 200 to 2001. His expertise has made him an authoritative source in the field and he has been with the State of Florida Department of Health Medical Expert Witness Program since 1994. Dr. Kiszonas is presently the Director of the Breast Imaging Service and Director of the Breast Imaging Fellowship Program at the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
