Arnold M. Markoe, M.D. is the chairman emeritus and professor of radiation oncology. He was also trained as a radiation biologist and holds a doctor of science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia and did his internship and residency, as well as being on staff at Hahnemann University Hospital until he came to the University of Miami in 1989. Dr. Markoe is board certified in radiation oncology. He became the second chairman of the department of radiation oncology, first as acting chairman in August 1994 and then as permanent chairman in March 1996 until June 2008.
He has published extensively and has achieved national and international prominence in the special area of the radiation treatment of eye tumors. His other interests are in head and neck oncology, neuro-oncology, lymphomas and re-treatment of previously treated patients. He is certified in gamma knife and cyberknife stereotactic radiosurgery and assesses and treats patients by these stereotactic techniques.
