Clinical Interests

Sinus disease, snoring, sleep apnea, snoring / sleep apnea surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, nasal obstruction, deviated septum, allergic rhinitis, skull based surgery, CSF leak, juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, endoscopic DCR, nasal polyps, vocal cord injections, laryngeal surgery, and voice disorders.

Research Interests

Rhinology, new techniques in sinus and skull base surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, and sleep apnea surgery.

 Jose W. Ruiz, MD, FACS is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Miami, School of Medicine. He specializes in the treatment of nasal/sinus disorders and sleep apnea. He is fully licensed and board certified in Otolaryngology. Dr. Ruiz has received several awards for his research in Otolaryngology and continues to be active in clinical research in the areas of endoscopic sinus surgery and surgery for sleep apnea.

He graduated in the top of his class from the University of Miami undergraduate and medical school, receiving the distinction of early induction into both Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, respectively. He completed residency and has been on staff for several years at the UM Department of Otolaryngology which has been ranked among the best programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report.

He is an active member of the American Rhinological Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, Florida Society of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, and Greater Miami ENT Society. Also, he is a peer reviewer of manuscript submissions to the Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery journal.
