Dr. Amar R. Deshpande is associate professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology.  He completed his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and then stayed at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital for his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship. 

Dr. Deshpande’s principal clinical interest is the study and care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease.  He sees patients and does research at the University of Miami Crohn's and Colitis Center, a tertiary referral center for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.  He has authored many articles, book chapters, and reviews in prestigious Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine journals with multiple presentations at national and international meetings as well. 

Dr. Deshpande is also actively involved in medical education.  He serves as program director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program, co-director of the Advanced Fellowship in IBD, co-director of the core Internal Medicine Clerkship for 3rd year medical students, coordinator of the GI/Nutrition Module for pre-clerkship medical students, and director of the GI electives for internal and visiting students and residents.  He has won numerous teaching awards.
