Become a Sylvester Nurse
Oncology nursing is a unique profession; it is an art, a science, and a challenging intellectual discipline. A career at Sylvester will give you the opportunity to become knowledgeable in cancer care, as well as offer the type of compassionate, supportive nursing care you’ve always wanted to provide. And, as a front line member of the Sylvester health care delivery team, you will help improve the lives of your patients every day.
The Nursing Department at Sylvester offers strong leadership, tools, and resources necessary to help our nurses excel in the ever-changing and evolving health care environment. Sylvester is on the journey to Magnet Recognition. Magnet Status is recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded only to health care organizations that demonstrate an environment of excellence for nursing practice and patient care. Research shows that Magnet hospitals have better patient outcomes and higher levels of patient and nurse satisfaction. Magnet is a seal of approval of quality nursing care. The Magnet journey is a thorough and demanding process, but Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center leadership is committed to achieving Magnet Designation!
The main goals of the Magnet program are to promote clinical quality, improve patient outcomes, support excellence and innovations in nursing practice, and create and sustain a culture of excellence.
Magnet promotes nursing involvement in the decision-making process through shared governance, promotes professional and career development by supporting continuing education, creates opportunities for organizational advancement and team-building, improves staff and patient satisfaction and creates an environment of trust, transparency, empowerment and collaborative relationships.
At Sylvester, we have a unique partnership with the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies, which allows our nurses to have access to the best, most up-to-date nursing education available. We encourage our nurses to continue their education and pursue careers that support our mission of research, education, and patient care. We provide tuition remission and scholarship support to our nurses, our staff, and our students. This is not only a great benefit, but also serves our core values of delivering patient-focused, compassionate care, paired with evidence-based nursing practice to provide our patients with state-of-the-art nursing care.
