Sylvester at Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – October 31, 2013 –Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, announces the appointment of Ney Alves, M.D. and Raja Mudad, M.D., F.A.C.P. to its multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists. With the addition of these two oncologic experts to the Sylvester roster, Drs. Alves’ and Mudad’s Hollywood practice will become the newest satellite facility, Sylvester at Hollywood. Additionally, Dr. Alves will also be seeing patients at UHealth at Plantation while Dr. Mudad will begin seeing patients in Miami. Sylvester Hollywood has 4 exam rooms and 10 CTU chairs. Taking Sylvester’s totals to 189 exam rooms across 5 locations and CTU Infusion Suites to 120.
Dr. Alves is a local expert in hematologic malignancies, specifically treating myelomas, lymphomas, leukemias and blood-related disorders; serving patients from south Broward County and Aventura at his private practice for the past 15 years. In addition, Dr. Mudad is a recognized expert in the field of thoracic oncology, both regionally and nationally. He has set up several lung cancer programs and multidisciplinary teams for the treatment and prevention of lung cancer. He also runs a lung cancer support group in Hollywood.

Dr. Alves is a board certified hematologic oncologist who earned his medical degree at the University of São Paulo School of Medicine in São Paulo, Brazil. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of São Paulo School of Medicine and upon arriving in the United States, completed his residency at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Alves went on to complete a hematology fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine and a hematology/oncology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis.
Dr. Mudad rounds out the new Hollywood team, and is a board certified hematologic oncologist who earned his medical degree at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency programs at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Mudad went on to complete a hematology /oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center before entering private practice. After
completing his fellowship, Dr. Mudad spent 11 years in academic medicine at Tulane University, where he ran the Hematologic Oncology fellowship program and was the associate section chief of the Hematologic Oncology division.
By joining Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Dr. Alves and Dr. Mudad acknowledge their practice will function at a higher level, combining the best quality cancer care with the excellent customer service that Sylvester is known for. Becoming a satellite of Sylvester will provide patients in the south Broward and Aventura areas access to numerous clinical trials and state-of-the-art cancer treatments only available through an academic institution of this caliber. The Hollywood team will join a group of more than 250 physicians and scientists at Sylvester dedicated to the mission of relieving the burden of cancer.
