UM/Sylvester and Saks Bal Harbour Kick-Off Annual Event

The annual kick-off fashion, food, and fundraising extravaganza had all three floors and more than 800 guests buzzing with excitement as guests dined on fancy feasts prepared by chefs from some of South Florida’s top restaurants and caterers.

Together with Ocean Drive and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), Saks Fifth Avenue-Bal Harbour partnered with UM/Sylvester to host the Key to a Cure, a charity shopping weekend that took place October 18 through October 21.

At the kick-off on Thursday, October 18, each guest paid $30, which went directly to UM/Sylvester to support research in those cancers that primarily strike women, such as breast and ovarian cancer.

A percentage of the weekend’s sales benefited UM/Sylvester through EIFs Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Nationwide, Saks stores and donated two percent of sales while Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet stores donated one percent of sales up to $1 million to local and national women’s cancer charities

Partygoers enjoyed live music and food from Social Miami at The Sagamore, China Grill, Tuscan Steak, Blue door at Delano, Mena Catering, Joy Wallace Catering, La Marea at Tides, Touch Catering, Table 8, Quattro, and many more. Guests also enjoyed the sounds of DJ’s Elaine Lnacaster, DJ Nikolas from The Fifth Nightclub, and DJ Mark Leventhal. Complimentary cocktails were provided by Grey Goose vodka. Special thanks also went to Mercedes Benz-USA for underwriting the event.

Philanthropist Irma Braman served as honorary event chair for her fifth year along with co-chairs Kim Wood, Jeff Peck, and Alan Randolph in their second year. Hammerman Brothers for Saks Fifth Avenue created a limited edition sterling silver 18K rose-gold vermeil finish key pendant with pink sapphires and diamonds. This was especially designed for UM/Sylvester. All proceeds from the sale of the necklace went directly to UM/Sylvester.

The event raised more than $30,000 and two percent (2%) of sales from this past weekend will support research at our community’s only university based cancer center – UM/Sylvester.
