Dr. Stefan Gluck, clinical director of the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at UM/Sylvester, and Talia Donenberg, M.S., genetic counselor at UM/Sylvester’s Center for Cancer Prevention and Genetics, were featured in a Miami Herald Tropical Life cover story on the genetics behind breast cancer. Dr. Margaret Pericak-Vance, director of the Miami Institute for Human Genomics, was also quoted in the article.
Sheah Rarback, director of nutrition at the Mailman Center for Child Development, used her weekly column in The Miami Herald, to remind readers of the connection between healthy eating and reducing the risk of cancer. She referenced the recent Well Being conference and the opening message from Dr. W. Jarrard Goodwin, director of UM/Sylvester.
Dr. Robert Kirsner, Stiefel Laboratories Professor and vice chairman of the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, and member of the Melanoma and other Skin Cancers Site Disease Group at UM/Sylvester has published a study in the online edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. In the study, Dr. Kirsner and his colleagues found that people who most need skin cancer screenings because of the high degree of sun exposure in their jobs, such as construction work, fishing, or farming, are the least likely to get skin exams.
