Bari Gold Bake Sale
When Bari Gold, a 7th grader at Palmetto Middle School, heard that her rabbi at Temple Beth Am had been diagnosed with breast cancer, she wanted to do something to help. So Bari decided to organize a bake sale and raise funds for cancer research in honor of Rabbi Rachel Greengrass. She enlisted the help of her Youth Activity director at Beth Am to put out a call for donated baked goods. Bari also enlisted the help of Kelly Lederman at Joanna’s Marketplace. On April 11, Kelly delivered the donated goods to Lennar Headquarters where Bari’s mom, Roberta Gold, works at Rialto Capital. Bari and several school friends, Alana Agron, Lilly Weinbach, Noah Milian and Fede Zalchberg, sold their donated baked goods as well as raffled off five gift certificates donated by Wagons West. Altogether, Bari and her friends raised over $1,000! This money is being donated to Cancer Link which supports breast cancer research at Sylvester. Bari plans to make this an annual event.
When Rabbi Greengrass heard of Bari’s donation in her honor she said, “As her rabbi, there is no larger gift than this. That my experience would inspire these teens to make the world a better place…it’s the best medicine for the soul.”
