Stephan L. Zuchner, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor of Human Genomics
Description of Research
Dr.Zuchner's scientific interests lie in mapping disease genes and genomic variation that is related to disease. Dr.Zuchner's lab has discovered more than a dozen important genes for a number of diseases. We have also recently developed advanced genomic analysis software that allows collaborative genomic analysis for non-bioinformaticians. He plans to expand the focus of these activities into cancer genomics, seeking out partners in SCCC such as Joyce Slingerland, Claes Wahlsteadt, Toni Capobianco, and others.
As Chair of the Department of Human Genetics, Dr.Zuchner has a great interest in developing cancer genetics in my department and at the Miller School. Cancer is the most common genetic disease and we have surprisingly little involvement in Cancer genetics. In this regard he has an interest in fostering faculty interactions and mutual usage of core facilities.
