Meet the Team
Ramin Shiekhattar, Ph.D., Academic Director
Ramin Shiekhattar, Ph.D., joined the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2014 as Chief of the Division of Cancer Genomics and Epigenetics and Director of the Cancer Epigenetics Research Program. Dr. Shiekhattar is the Academic Director of the OGSR and has overseen the expansion of OGSR services to meet the changing needs of investigators. Dr. Shiekhattar’s research group has made important contributions to the identification and characterization of key mediators of epigenetic regulation and non-coding RNA processing that contribute to cancer development. A major focus of his current research is in deciphering the function enhancer lncRNAs in the context of cancer, using state-of-the-art genomics and proteomics approaches.
Sion Williams, Ph.D., OGSR Director
Dr. Williams is the Director of the OGSR and has led the facility since 2013. He has a strong background in molecular biology and has published research on the genomics and gene therapy of mitochondrial DNA. Dr. Williams’ primary appointment is as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and he is a Co-Director of the CFAR Laboratory Core. He gained his Ph.D. from University College London and joined the University of Miami in 2005.
Corneliu Sologon, M.D. Ph.D., Assistant Scientist
Dr. Sologon earned his MD from “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Romania and holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Miami. Dr. Sologon is responsible for NGS, droplet digital PCR and DNA extractions.
Yoslayma Cardentey, B.S., Research Associate 3
Yoslayma earned her bachelors of science in microbiology from the University of Havana in Cuba. She is the primary technician for our nanoString services and also has a lot of experience working with Bioanalyzer assays, Taqman and Exiqon qPCR.
Robert Sutter, B.S., Research Associate 2
Robert has a BS from Temple University and joined the OGSR in 2016 after two years with LabCorp/Covance. He has expertise in the implementation of laboratory automation and provides all levels of support for NGS, ddPCR, and sample quantification and QC services.
Karen Triff, PhD, Research Associate 3
Karen joined the OGSR in 2017 after completing her PhD at Texas A & M University where she worked on NGS workflow development and bioinformatics. She is responsible for development and provision of new Collaborative Epigenomics Services.
