Molecular Screening Core Facility

VTI 600

The Screening Core Facility at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is a shared resource with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

The Screening Core provides researches with access to High Content Screening (HCS) technology and libraries for perturbing cellular function. HCS allows automated image analysis to quantify changes in cellular phenotypes after various treatments. It is widely used in biotech and pharmaceutical companies for primary screening of cancer therapeutics, secondary validation screens, toxicology studies and systems biology studies. The libraries available in the screening core include sets of compounds with known molecular mechanisms of action, permitting investigators to rapidly probe a variety of signaling networks. The screening core can provide consultation on assay design and image analysis algorithms that can speed assay development. The instrumentation includes the ability to perform live cell assays, such as live/dead assays or tube formation assays.
