Vance Lemmon, Ph.D., Co-Core Director
Vance Lemmon, PhD., is Co-Core Director of the Screening Core Facility at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. In addition to his responsibilities in the Screening Core Facility, he is also Director of the UM Viral Vector Core Facility. Dr. Lemmon has extensive experience in High Content Screening (HCS), microscopy and monoclonal antibody production. Dr. Lemmon earned his Ph.D. in Anatomy from Emory University and holds the Walter G. Ross Distinguished Chair in Developmental Neuroscience at the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He is an affiliate of the Center for Computational Science and the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. He is an editor of the Assay Guidance Manual.
John Bixby, Ph.D., Co-Core Director
John Bixby, Ph.D. is Co-Core Director of the Screening Core Facility at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Bixby is also Vice Provost for Research at the University of Miami and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology. Dr. Bixby earned his Ph.D. at CalTech and worked at UCSD and UCSF before joining the University of Miami. He is an affiliate of the Center for Computational Science and the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, and has been working in the HCS field since 2003.
Yan Shi, M.S., Senior Research Associate
Yan Shi is primary contact for the Screening Core Facility at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. Yan Shi has more than 8 years of experience with HCS along with instrumentation, assay development and informatics analysis. She earned her Master’s Degree in Chemistry at Michigan State University. She also holds a Computer Information System Certification from the University of Miami and a Certified Manager Certification from The Institute of Certified Professional Managers. During her employment at UM, she has co-authored 3 publications. The poster she presented at the CHI High Content Analysis meeting in 2008 won the Best Poster Award. She also manages the Miami Project Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). She gave a presentation on the LIMS at the Thermo Informatics World meeting 2012.
Raquibul Chowdhury, M.S., Research Associate III
Mr. Chowdhury holds a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering and has been with UM since 2007. Prior to joining UM he completed a postgraduate internship at Rochal Industries, developing polymer synthesis and purification methods with a focus on wound healing formulations. At UM he has had extensive experience working in core facilities, having worked in the Monoclonal Antibody Core and Molecular Screening Core. His experience includes assay design and optimization, generation of monoclonal antibodies and use of equipment such as HPLC, FPLC, Luminex, Odyssey Infrared Imager, fluorescent microscopes, Cellomics Arrayscan VTI, etc. During his tenure at UM he has been co-authored two publications, a patent and national poster presentations.
