Healing Hands Oncology Massage
The Courtelis Center for Psychosocial Oncology and Integrative Medicine welcomes the newest addition to our team, Hazel Beckford, LMT. Ms. Beckford recently launched the Healing Hands Oncology Massage Therapy program.
Our massage therapist offers oncology massage for Sylvester outpatients and inpatients. Published studies have shown positive effects of massage therapy on individuals undergoing cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and surgery. Oncology massage may:
- Ease pain
- Reduce anxiety and depression
- Control nausea
- Improve sleep and ease fatigue
- Improve energy level and overall feeling of well-being
- Promote relaxation
Certain criteria may prohibit patients from receiving massage therapy so all patients must be cleared with their physicians and the massage therapist prior to any massage session. Some patients are not eligible and other may have restrictions on site, pressure and position.
Sylvester inpatients and CTU patients can receive massage services in their hospital room/infusion chair on Tuesdays. Ask your nurse for assistance in the request.
Sylvester outpatients can book appointments via the Courtelis Center at 305-243-4129.
