The music therapy program at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center engages patients in music activities that address the physiologic and psycho-emotional aspects of patient care. Our board-certified music therapist Marlen Rodriguez-Wolfe, works with patients to facilitate activities that promote healing and well-being. Through live music making, active music listening or instrumental lessons, our music therapist supports patients through all phases of their treatment, tailoring each music experience to the patient’s needs.
Music therapy may:
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Reduce pain, nausea, and discomfort
- Provide opportunities for self-expression
- Induce positive mood and emotions
- Assist in relaxation
- Maintain executive function and other cognitive skills
Music Therapy Services include individual and group sessions for:
- Inpatient, stem cell, bone marrow and intensive care units

The Music Therapy program also coordinates the Sylvester Music Performance Project, which brings music performances to the common and waiting areas of Sylvester. Be on the lookout for upcoming Sylvester Music Performance Project events.
