Today, the Departments of Neurological Surgery, Neurology, and Radiation Oncology, with the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, offer diagnosis, treatment and the highest level of care for all types of brain tumors. Patients have doctors willing to consider all treatment options ranging from surgical intervention; innovative adjuvant chemotherapy, radiation and other medications; cutting edge clinical trials; to conservative management. Information about our exemplar clinical trials can be viewed here.
The procedures performed on both pediatric and adult patients use the most minimally invasive neurosurgery techniques. We use awake craniotomies for eloquent region tumors (those potentially impacting speech and language function), with intra-operative cortical mapping of motor, sensory, and language function. This allows for maximal surgical resection of the tumors, with minimal impact on the patients’ quality of life. Only select neurosurgeons in the United States are skilled enough to perform this procedure.
